Otago Math Certificate

This is a Otago math certificate.Otago math is a thing where you solve diffrent math problems around 5 times a year.This was a fun experience and I would kinda like to do again next year.

T4 W6

On a sunny but also cloudy Wednesday, Rm 29 had to go to bike skillz. After the morning tea bell rang, Rm 29 lined up outside our classroom and we headed towards the field.From a kinda long distance I saw Kelly getting ready and Satali just standing there waiting for us.

When we got there Satali we said hi and then we got to get our helmets on. I choose a medium one but I had trouble putting it on so Satali helped me.Next we got to get our bikes. We got the bikes and I got a grey bike.I had to share with Annika and it was surprisingly high! I got it lowered and it felt more comfortable.

Kelly told us that the people that was still push and gliding had to go with Satali (which included Tanielle,Paige and I.)Then I had to share a bike with Tanielle and the bike was blue and it fell really comfortable.

We took our bikes over to Satali and she told us that we could just push and glide and stuff.
She took Paige and clutched the bike while Paige peddled. I went on the blue bike and started pushing and gliding.We could only push and glide till the jacket and then we turned.I saw Paige riding for like 2 seconds.

Then I had to give the bike over to Tanielle. Satali took her for a ride. While I waited I talked to Paige and she was trying to ride but she did for (again) a couple of seconds. Then she started to ride by herself!!
Paige then unbalanced but it was actually shocking.

Then it was my turn. Satali took me around and then she let go but I rode the bike for like 1 second and then lost my balance. She told me to keep pedalling and to not stop.She took Paige around and I saw her slowly let go and the next second Paige was riding by herself!! The other people that knew how to ride started clapping.

Then we pushed and glided for a while and then it was time to go.We took our helmets off and we put it back in the correct bag.We said thank you to Kelly and Satali and we walked off the field.

Term 4 Week 5

 Term 4 Week 5
Last Friday it was Fantastic Friday! After the lunch bell I quickly walked towards Room 18.I had to do Vintage Games. The people that was doing Vintage Games had to wait outside of Rm 18 for a while until the teachers were ready.

Finally we got let in the classroom and we had to sit down on the mat. They told us we would have a selection, Elastics, Long rope,Bump and Four Square. I got in a group with Charlotte ,Eliani Damien and  we choose Elastics. We went outside and we got our elastics thingy and started to play elastics.

The highest we got was from Eliani and she got up to the waist. Charlotte got up to the waist but she told us to but the elastic a bit lower.I got up to the knees because it was a bit hard to do the doggy tail bit.Damien got up to the knees as well.

Then I went to go with another group with Damien and Artemis. That time I got up to the waist but I couldn't jump that high.Damien and Artemis got up to the knees. It was actually not that hard.

I saw the people that were filming for next week for the assembly to show what we did in Vintage Games.
After that we had to sit on the grass and talk with the teachers.Then the teachers asked how it was and then they told us we could go back to our class.

Math Skillz- Ratios

I was learning to know what Ratios are and what to do with them in math.I found this easy because I watched videos and looked at websites and I understood what ratios are.My next step is to do activities including ratios.

Narrative Writing- Little Red Riding Hood And Evil Cinderella

Characters: Granny,Evil Cinderella,Little Red,Little Red's Mom,Woodcutter.
Once upon a time there was a girl called Little Red.Her Granny wanted her to visit so that day she decided to go visit her. Her Mother reminded her that there was a woman that was really pretty and seemed nice  but was actually a witch!
“Stay on the path!”called her mother.
“Remember stranger danger!!”she added said the worried mother.
She walked out of the house cautiously as she headed towards the woods, which was where her granny’s house was.If I did bump into the evil woman, I’ll try just ignore her she thought.Meanwhile Cinderella realized she was hungry.She decided to follow the little girl that was walking in the woods and maybe chomp her all up.
Little Red was skipping on the path when she saw a bunch of roses. Maybe Granny would like them she thought.She went off the path and skipped over t the roses, pulled the bunch of roses.
"Hello what are you doing child?"
The voice startled Little Red. She turned around an saw this pretty lady with big innocent blue eyes, her voice was high and chirpy, her dress was sky blue, her skin looked as soft cushion.
"I am going to visit my Granny" Little red declared.
"Where does your Granny live darling" The woman questioned.
"She lives in a little cottage just a couple kilometers away" the child replied.
"Well have a nice day" The woman said and disappeared in the woods.
Well that was strange little red thought.Eh she thought and headed towards her Granny's house.
Hiya! What was that little red thought as she ran over to her Granny's house.
"Granny are you alright? What happened?" little red questioned.
This woman over here tried to eat me up so I karate kicked her in the face!
Little Red looked at the woman on the ground unconscious.
"Granny this is the lady I was talking to in the mysterious woods!" the child exclaimed.
"Well why did she come here?"the old lady queried.
"I just told her that I was going to visit you and I told her about where you lived!" she replied
"WHY?" the elderly woman cried.
"I didn't think it was important and plus she seemed really innocent"she spoke.
"Just go home dear and tell your mother that I am fine" Granny asked.
Then Little red skipped home and lived happily ever after.

Language Features Writing-Onomatopoeia

An onomatopoeia is a very special thing. It’s a word like quack or flutter, or oink or boom or zing. It sounds just like its meaning, for example snort and hum. It’s the crash and clang of cymbals, and the rat-a-tat of drums. It’s the clatter and the plip-plops, and the beeps and bonks and chirps. It’s the mumbles and the rumbles, and the rattles and the burps. It’s the hissing and the buzzing, and the giggles and the moos. And on a spooky moonlit night, it is a scary BOO!

I was learing to identify how many onamatopiea's in the paragraph. I had to underline the onamatopiea's in the paragraph. I thought is was easy because I know when I see a onamatopiea.

I looked to see my brother, painting as usual using the help of the camera I put in his room. You see I really love being suspicious of everything. All of a sudden my camera battery went out!

I ran to my brother's room and... oops I tripped over the paint and the paint went all over the painting! My brother;s face was red, steam going out of his ears! I quickly grabbed my camera and ran out of the room.
"It wasn't my fault!" I muttered loudly.
"It was your fault!" my brother said.

 Jack was very deep in animals. He felt that animals should be
humans.
"Fine only if you behave" said his Father.
The very next day, Jack and his father set out for the local zoo.
As soon as they went past the entrance, Jack rushed out to see all the animals.
Jack looked around and noticed something very mysterious.      
"Father the" said Jack                    
"Shush look at that tall as Giraffe!" barged in father.
"Father I am talking here you know!"exclaimed Jack sounding desperate.
"What now"
"Don't you think something here is mysterious?" said Jack
"NO and let's go into that tunnel"
As they entered the silence was deafening.
"Rats! aaahhhhh"

On Monday this week Room 29 (the year 5's) went down in the white school van to go down at Te Tuhi.  First the group I was in which was most of the girls and we went down to Te Tuhi first. When we got there everyone started playing hand games. Then the rest of the class came and we had to wait for Jerome our art teacher we were meant to have. The Jerome appeared and took Room 29 to the art studio. Jerome told us to not touch the bottles that were on the table and told us to find a seat. I found a seat in the middle table with a couple of people.  First Jerome go this lady names Te Aroha to tell Room 29 about the Earth Mother and the Sky Father.  Next Jerome told us told us to look for the holes in the bottles and use a vivid marker to trace around it. The he told us to cut on the line and the you got to decorate the bottle with these sticker thingys. Finally we got to put the plant and soil and stuff in it. I decided I would get a food plant. I thought it was lettuce or something. Next Jerome took us around Te Tuhi and showed us the projects around Te Tuhi and asked what technology the artists used. Overall I thought the trip was fun but I felt somehow restless.

Making Connections

I was learning to identify character traits and compare characters based on these traits.  I had to find out what the character looked like, how it got treated and how he treated people,the other box and how it felt.  The easiest traits was the other box because the author didn't tell much and it only told the things that fitted the other box.

Yesterday the rest of the netball field day people and I went to Howick Pakuranga Netball place .  We got separated in to groups and I got to go in a group with Mrs Graham.  There was around 5 or 6 games of netball with other schools. Our team one around 3 of the games but I thought it was fun to learn proper netball. I got to play center, goal shooter and wing ataker.

My Reflection
I was learning to identify character traits and to compare character based on these traits.  I had to look for how the main character got treated, what they looked like and how they felt.  The hardest traits was probaly physical and social because the author didn't tell much at the start.  The easiest trait was the other box because it told what the character got and fitted the other box.

This week the mayor of Auckland came to our school to award Elm Park School the Green Gold Enviro School Award.  We had to have a Powhiri because it was a special occasion.  Also this week I did some math with Quinn and Calvin.  Then we decided that we should call our group name "Math Skillz."We did all sorts Algorithms and Column Addition.

Charlotte's Web Stereotypes

We were learning to say what stereotypes were.  We filled in the stereotypes and wrote what was good about this and bad about this.  I found this easy because the things we had to fill because the examples were easy.  My next step is to do harder stereotypes.

Yesterday in Novel Group we got to read one more chapter of Charlotte's Web.  The chapter was about Charlotte tries to save Wilbur's life by making a web and making the words say some pig.  Thanks to Charlotte, Mr Zuckerman told the minster the extraordinary thing.  Then later on Mr Zuckerman's farm became more famous.  Wilbur's pig pen got more famous.  Wilbur's meals became more bigger, instead of three meals a day it became four meals a day!

  Suddenly I saw

On Friday the 13th it was a dark stormy night, lightning struck and missed a girl by inches. The girl was called Dianne, she believed in ghosts and zombies. She was lost and suddenly I saw a dark hooded figure behind me with a machine gun. Dianne the first time in her life she was scared. Her heart was beating so fast she couldn't feel it. Dianne ran to the end of the street, "Wait!" said an unfamiliar voice. I realized it was the dark hooded figure. She stopped and the dark hooded figure was waiting. The hooded figure pulled out his machine gun and... boom! Dianne opened her eyes and saw a boy dead lying on the pavement.


Reflection


We have been learning to add detail to our writing by doing the 100 Word Challenge.  I found this easy because I thought the sentence was really easy.  My next step is to maybe do this activity more often so I can improve.

Yesterday there was Digikids and in Writing we did the One Hundred Word Challenge.  The Hundred Word Challenge is when the teacher gives you a picture or a sentence and you have to carry it on, making a creative story.  Yesterday we did a picture of a person holding a huge red eel thingy.  In Digikids we got learn more about coding.  Mrs Melvile showed us this video about coding and people that made famous stuff on the internet, what it's like and stuff.  Then we did this coding thingy on this website.

Yesterday at novel reading novel group read Charlotte's Web.  Mrs Graham made us a new timetable.  She made this timetable diffrent compared to the one we normally do.  Mrs Graham also did this slideshow of challenges.  The challenges was kind of like the Big Blue Whale Project.  Also yesterday there was Digikids.  In Digikids we got to change our blog background and change your mail stuff (profile picture and background). It was fun I changed my blog background to blue ish.

                              The Big Blue Whale Project
Yesterday was fun because Mrs Melvile and Mrs Graham set the class this project.  It is The Big Blue Whale project.  Our teachers set the class 12 tasks, the tasks were based on the book, The Big Blue Whale. The tasks was kind of difficult.

Term 1 Week 4

Last week Rm 28/29 played sport with Youth Town.  We played Capture The Flag.  Their version was kind of diffrent from the version I play.  It was fun. Most of the time I just guarded my team.  A couple times I went and tried to get the ball.  I wish I had kept going for the ball.  I'm looking forward to playing Capture The Flag again.
